Who is Jesus?
If you have come this far, your curiosity and your willingness to be open-minded, we welcome you so that you may be welcomed into His embrace!
There are certain specific particulars of the Person of Jesus that will differentiate us from other groups:
To understand Him and to know Him we would be remiss – both irresponsible and naïve – if we did not mention the Scriptures. You have probably wondered that yourself – when are they gonna talk about the Bible?
The Scriptures are very vital and essential component in this discovery and re-discovery. Without the Scriptures, we, as humans, would flail in the wind attempting to understand a knowledge of an eternal and infinite being that is beyond human comprehension. After all, the basic foundational understanding of God is that He is unmistakably unknowable. Yet, previously, we wrote that He is knowable. How is it possible that He is both unmistakably unknowable and knowable at the same time?
The Scriptures. You see, this flimsy little book that you may own and probably have not read in ages or a book you may have never heard before in your life, will be the most important piece of literary writing in your life.
We say so unequivocally because the Scriptures came to us from the very eternal and infinite God, Himself through the penmanship of human agents and through the Incarnate Savior God, Jesus Christ. In essence, the Lord God speaks to us presently and He had spoken to them in ages past. What the Lord God revealed to human beings so many years ago is the same revelation, or revealing of Himself, to us modern day contemporary humans of this current age.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work
— 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Thus Scripture was fashioned and the entire process of it coming into being was the work of the Lord God, in order that every human being past, present, and future may have the opportunity to read the presence of the eternal and infinite God on their fingertips. And that is why to us who have the understanding that God offers in His Jesus Christ – it is literally, ‘good news’ of exceeding joy! The actual word ‘Gospel’ means ‘good news that is announced.’ That makes it different from other religious messages.
The Good News is that we are so lost and broken that we cannot find God or fix ourselves, so God has come to find and save us. To do that He became a man, Jesus of Nazareth, who lived an ordinary human life, distinguished only by the startling fact that He never did anything wrong. He kept all of God’s laws, both internally and externally, and having done so, He transferred all the credit for that obedience to those who love and trust Him. In addition to giving us the credit for His perfect life and obedience, Jesus went further and willingly took the punishment that was due to us for our imperfect, rebellious lives. Dying on the cross, He forgave those who were killing Him. When He rose from the dead, Jesus demonstrated that death had no hold on Him, nor on any who entrust their lives and souls to Him.
The Gospel – being reunited to God in such an intimate and personal way but not in any sort of external engagement or even internal mental engagement. But instead in believing and trusting and saying with your mouth – “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9
The power of this free grace and acceptance into the family of God through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your heart and soul has a transformative effect on your life. And His work in you is not yet completed for He has promised His Holy Spirit to encompass and to dwell inside of you in such a way that you are no longer trying to earn God’s approval. Our obedience and ‘good deeds’ become truly good for the first time, as they are motivated by a thankfulness that manifests itself through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
Where do I go from here?
Our hope and prayer are that you will remain here with us. But even if that is not the case, we bid you a fond farewell! May you return to these preceding pages and re-read how it is that you may know the God that we know; love the God that we love; trust, believe, and have faith in the Son that gave Himself and indeed much more than all this, for us, in order that we may become enthralled and embraced by the eternal and infinite God of all ages!
